Village People
I live in the town of Huddersfield, England. More specifically I live in the small village of Holmfirth, 8 miles from Huddersfield, England. For those who do not know this village I'd suggest you set aside a spare half hour to watch an episode of Last of the Summer Wine and I'm sure you will realise that it is not exactly the most exciting of places to live; at least if you're under the age of seventy, anyway.
My wife Holly, on the other hand, is an American. From the land of big trucks, gun crime and super-size meals. Recently she rather politely referred to this lovely, quaint little village of ours as "butt-fuck nowhere". Indeed. But I've got to agree. There is nothing to do here whatsoever, except perhaps visit an overpriced gift-shop or two. The highlight of any Holmfirthian's year is the Holmfirth Duck Race, a true test of stamina and muscle for any... sigh ... small plastic duck. Sad isn't it? Last year the Holmfirth Christmas Lights were so bloody shite that the "celebrity" marking the event - whoever she was - had to verbally clarify to the confused crowd that the lights had in fact been turned on.
Am I the only Briton who would prefer a little more excitement from his/her life? Or am I just going through a mid-life crisis at 22?

Haha, i usually say 'bum-fuck nowhere', but close enough :P Anyway, people would always like a little excitement. I liv ein a college town and the only thing to do is go to bars (i dont drink) or go to the bars :|

That doesnt sound *too* bad? At least when you're drunk you dont really notice, or care how boring your existance is

Sadly, that about sums it up.

i live in bampton, a very small village and we (the american hubby and i) feel the same about it. we tend to use the "bum-fuck" version to describe it here as well. we are moving into oxford in the next week or so, so it'll be good to be in civilisation again.
you're only 22? bloody hell i feel old now.

@Lorissa: I think most of Britain retains the right to be classed as the middle of nowhere. This is one boring country!
@Elessar: Doing a lot comes at a cost; my social life has been quite a megre one since college!
@PJ: Haha :D

Holmfirth Christmas Lights - I agree - however, instead of JUST slagging them off I am working as a team to do something about them. Concert 3rd December 2006 Huddersfield Town Hall - all money raised will go to the lights. Also applying for various grants to the tune of £70 +K - its really easy to citicise something when you know nothing about it. So steve that`ll be how many tickets you want for the concert - did I hear you say 500?

That's life I'm afraid Kath. Unfortunately everyone gets critisised. If I tried to do something about everything I see faults in I wouldnt have time to eat or sleep. We just have to be select with what we choose to take action upon. But good luck with the concert.
No you didnt hear my say 500. You probably heard me say I'm broke. But I may turn up on the door with my beloved.
