Village People
I live in the town of Huddersfield, England. More specifically I live in the small village of Holmfirth, 8 miles from Huddersfield, England. For those who do not know this village I'd suggest you set aside a spare half hour to watch an episode of Last of the Summer Wine and I'm sure you will realise that it is not exactly the most exciting of places to live; at least if you're under the age of seventy, anyway.
My wife Holly, on the other hand, is an American. From the land of big trucks, gun crime and super-size meals. Recently she rather politely referred to this lovely, quaint little village of ours as "butt-fuck nowhere". Indeed. But I've got to agree. There is nothing to do here whatsoever, except perhaps visit an overpriced gift-shop or two. The highlight of any Holmfirthian's year is the Holmfirth Duck Race, a true test of stamina and muscle for any... sigh ... small plastic duck. Sad isn't it? Last year the Holmfirth Christmas Lights were so bloody shite that the "celebrity" marking the event - whoever she was - had to verbally clarify to the confused crowd that the lights had in fact been turned on.
Am I the only Briton who would prefer a little more excitement from his/her life? Or am I just going through a mid-life crisis at 22?

i live in bampton, a very small village and we (the american hubby and i) feel the same about it. we tend to use the "bum-fuck" version to describe it here as well. we are moving into oxford in the next week or so, so it'll be good to be in civilisation again.
